“I have always been interested in life-extending, holistic approaches to health,” remarked Jim Lampley, “I’ve taken nutritional supplements before, but never in a supervised program with monitoring and feedback. I have more energy now and my lifestyle is far less compromised due to my preventive medicine/anti-aging program.”
Jim believes that his preventive medicine program has enhanced his health and well-being; he is committed to maintaining his outstanding physical and mental function for as long as possible

Ms. Walker is a well-known and well-respected broadcast journalist and a busy parent raising her vibrant children. Bree is also a prominent disability rights activist and a national consultant in the field. Ms. Walker came to CHI in search of the cause and treatment for her severe migraine headaches. Ms. Walker now confirms that Dr. Rothenberg, “by adjusting my hormones, has caused the migraine attacks to decrease dramatically. My skin tone is better, too; it seems to have more firmness, more elasticity. People comment on how rare it is to see someone with a wrinkle-free face at my age. My waistline actually seems more youthful, and my workout only enhances my physical and mental well-being.”

“I was a menopausal mad woman! I went from living the life of a busy, happy, self-assured and successful businesswoman to a non-functioning, constantly crying, frightened individual, who had panic attacks every time I left my house.”
Ms. Childers stopped working and hid away from the world. “There were times I thought I was going to die. It was the most terrifying thing I had ever been through. But when my doctors treated me like I was crazy and prescribed synthetic hormones, I said, ‘No’. My research left me extremely concerned about the side effects of synthetic drugs. Then I heard about CHI.
“Dr. Rothenberg changed my life. He treated me with concern, compassion and understanding and made me feel that my well being was of utmost importance to him. After in-depth discussion, he prescribed natural estrogen and progesterone. Within days, I began to feel better! Now I am working again and laughing again. I have CHI and its program to thank.”

In February 1995, after a short plane flight to a veterinary seminar, I became very ill with an upper respiratory virus. I had a 102-105 degree temperature for almost three weeks. My ENT physician put me on Augmenton, then on Cefelexin with an occasional dose of prednisone. It took several months to fully recover. Within six months, I started to develop an insidious fatigue. The fatigue worsened and by March 1996, I could hardly work a full day and I could only do a light work out at the gym.
Complete blood panels detected nothing. My doctor gave me several antidepressants, which did nothing. Over the next six to eight months, I gradually developed some neurological problems; a decreased sense of feeling in my right hand and foot and a partial blindness in my right eye. I was referred to a neurologist for a complete work up. All tests were normal.
Eventually, I was referred for a MRI, which was negative. I had most of the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis but did not have any positive test results. By mid 1998, I was only able to practice veterinary medicine one day per week and I taught one part-time college class. Due to my illness, I was unable to become a partner in the Veterinary clinic where I had worked for 15 years and eventually I had to quit the practice. I could not make enough money to pay bills, which forced me to take a second mortgage on my house. My marriage was dissolving and I did not have the strength to play with my then, 9-year old son. In August 1998, I was diagnosed as a hypochondriac. My pituitary gland had stopped producing the Luteinizing hormone and I was not making any testosterone. At this time I had another MRI to check for a tumor; the results were negative. I started receiving testosterone injections. This alleviated some of my fatigue symptoms but it did not relieve any of the neurological symptoms.
In December 1998 and through most of 1999, for some unknown reason, most of the symptoms disappeared. I was able to work and spend time with my son. However, in December 1999, all of the symptoms returned. I became weak and depressed. A complete work up showed nothing. I was placed on Wellbutrin and lithium; my doctors thought that I might be bipolar.
The antidepressant medications slightly improved my spirits but worsened my hand tremors and increased the muscle weakness in my legs. I was back to working two days per week and being too exhausted to play with my son once again. I went to work, came home and went to bed. My days off were spent at home usually resting and getting more depressed. I was referred to a new psychiatrist, who was a client of Dr. Rothenberg’s. I told him that I wanted to get off my medications and needed to see someone that might be able to advise me on how to combat my, as of yet, undiagnosed disease.
Dr. Rothenberg took the time to review all seven pages of my medical history. It was the first time in several years that any doctor had taken the time to completely review my entire case. My lab work showed some abnormalities that were addressed during consultation with Dr. Rothenberg. At CHI, I was given a battery of tests, I met with their nutritionist and then, I had a final consult with Dr. Rothenberg to review my tests and to plan an effective anti-aging/preventive medicine program designed to meet my specific needs.
Within two months after beginning my program, I had weaned off of the antidepressants, I was working three days each week and I started working out three days per week. I have been on the program for more than eight months now. I still have occasional bouts of my previous symptoms but they only last two or three days. The symptoms are less severe and much less debilitating. I am now working full-time and three weeks ago; I took my son out to play paint ball. We spent the entire day running up and down the mountains having a great time; something that I was unable to do a year ago. I am greatly appreciative to the entire staff at California HealthSpan for their kindness, care and the interest that they have taken in my health.

Over a year ago, I started my anti-aging program at California HealthSpan Institute. I had heart about Dr. Rothenberg and I knew that my dentist was a patient at California HealthSpan Institute. Over a period of time, I watched the physical and mental changes of my dentist. He was getting younger looking and his memory was greatly improving. Whatever he was doing, I wanted to do it too.
I was in good health, for a gentleman in his late, late sixties but I could feel that even though I was exercising routinely and trying to eat a good diet, I was slipping. I also had bouts of depression and did not feel as good as I once did. Something was not right.
After being on my personal anti-aging program for more than a year, I have more energy than I have had in years, my depression is almost non-existent and my sex life is better than ever. I know that eating a hormonally correct diet, resistance training, taking bio-identical hormones and brain boosting medications has changed my life drastically, for the better.
If you want to look younger, feel more youthful, have a zest for life once again, I strongly recommend that you begin your own anti-aging program. I am grateful for the excellent medical supervision I receive from Dr. Rothenberg and his staff. California HealthSpan Institute has changed my life. I am now in my second career as an actor and I think I have a lot more living to do, thanks to California HealthSpan Institute.
It all began with a horrendous backache, which the doctor at Kaiser diagnosed as a bad case of the flu. The next day Kaiser doctors, informed by a spinal tap and paralysis beginning with my feet and quickly moving toward my chest, diagnosed my symptoms as polio. I was 25 years old! I was told that I nearly died that night. After three weeks under quarantine in intensive care, I was taken by ambulance to Kaiser’s rehabilitation center in Vallejo, California.
I was told that I would never walk again. At the rehabilitation center I was to be taught how to use crutches and how to get in and out of a wheelchair and how to manage if I fell. However, one day I moved my toe ever so slightly. The doctors did not believe me and lectured me on phantom movement.
I did walk again, within three months of the onset of the disease. However, the ensuing years were a kind of hell. In addition to a weak left arm and leg, which I tended to drag, fatigue was my constant companion and incontinence my constant fear. Because of the demands of my family and my profession, I learned how to disregard the physical needs of my body, especially those related to fatigue. I worked harder and harder, gradually working up to a day that began at 4:00 am and ended sometime between 10:00 pm and midnight, seven days a week. These days included bicycling to work, about 4 miles per day and swimming one-half mile per day five days per week.
Twenty-eight years after the initial paralysis, my body decided it had had enough. For an entire year I rarely left my bed. I went to a Kaiser neurologist, who essentially told me it was all in my head. It was suggested that I had Post-polio Syndrome, but a University of California doctor said there was no evidence of that. Finally, in desperation, I pursued alternative medicine. I went to an acupuncturist, a homeopath, a chiropractor and a yoga teacher. Each professional improved the quality of my life but not sufficiently for me to return to my full-time job. Therefore, I was forced to retire.
I moved to a small town in the northern California foothills where the dry climate seemed to improve my physical well-being. Previously, I lived in a coastal area with its regular dose of fog. I went to a new Kaiser facility, where my doctor, puzzled by my continuing fatigue, set up an appointment for me with a neurologist. The neurologist informed me that I had never had polio, but had had an infection, which was most likely spinal meningitis.
Two years ago, I had my annual checkup by my local doctor, an internist. I asked him if my fatigue might be due to a thyroid deficiency, and I also asked his opinion on my discontinuing hormone replacement therapy (Premarin+) since I’d heard more about its association with cancer. He told me that my thyroid was normal and I should stop taking all hormones immediately.
In May 2001, I developed “trigger” thumb, a form of arthritis, on my right hand. My internist referred me to an orthopedic doctor who failed to help me regain use of my right hand. By October 2001, I had developed “trigger” thumb in my left hand. I was not able to use either hand very much and this almost completely incapacitated me. I saw a second orthopedic doctor and asked if he thought I might have some systemic problem now that two hands were affected. He said he thought I might be right, but he didn’t know how to help me.
A friend of mine had had a serious medical event. When he was released from the hospital and came to visit me, I remembered having seen Dr. Ron Rothenberg on a satellite university television channel where he was lecturing to a class of medical students at the University of California at San Diego about anti-aging medicine. I was so impressed about what he had to say that I “bookmarker” his website on my computer. I opened his website to share it with my friend. I discovered that Dr. Rothenberg and his clinical coordinator had just published a book. I called the California HealthSpan Institute (CHI) “800″ number to order the book and Kathleen Becker, the book’s co-author answered the telephone. Somehow we began talking about my arthritis problem, and I mentioned that I had abruptly stopped hormone replacement therapy earlier in the year. She immediately suggested that I might have a progesterone deficiency.
By November 2001, the arthritis had spread to my back. After reading CHI’s book, FOREVER AGELESS, I decided that I was going to make an appointment for an Evaluation Day. Dr. Rothenberg ordered a comprehensive baseline lab panel that astounded my local internist. When I arrived in San Diego for my Evaluation Day, the first thing Dr. Rothenberg had me do was to have a full body scan at a local imaging lab. I then spent the rest of the day in his office being tested and talking with the doctor about the results of my lab tests and other diagnostic tests.
A few days after returning home, a large box was delivered with hormones, including thyroid and all the various supplements Dr. Rothenberg had prescribed. Within one month, after taking the natural hormones and nutritional supplements, all of the arthritis was gone and has not returned. It has been one year since I began my anti-aging program. I have lost 30 pounds without feeling I was on a diet, without hunger, without food cravings. My energy level is where it was before I became paralyzed. My mental acuity continues to sharpen and I am currently juggling three intense projects in my professional life. My sexual energy has increased, changing the way I relate to people, communicating what a total stranger described as a glow and vitality that he saw as beautiful.
I realize now what I responded to in listening to Dr. Rothenberg lecture to his students. It was the common sense of understanding the entire body system, understanding the role of each organ in relation to our biochemistry. The intelligence of Dr. Rothenberg’s treatment regimes are so simple but rarely practiced by physicians with adequate knowledge. Also, having a full laboratory testing at the outset to determine the patient’s condition and periodic testing to determine the patient’s progress is essential. When my gynecologists prescribed hormones for me, they never ordered a lab test to determine which hormones needed replacement nor at what levels were optimum. The fact that Dr. Rothenberg prescribes bio-identical hormones, rather than Premarin and the like, and natural supplements and his keeping up with current medical research reinforces my confidence that he will truly help me to maintain my health and enable my body to function in the “zone.” California HealthSpan Institute has given me my life back.
