In the past, adult stem cells were aspirated from your bone marrow; a painful procedure done under general anesthesia. Advances in technology allow NeoStem and CHI, to increase the number of stem cells in your blood. This process temporarily causes stem cells to migrate from your bone marrow into your bloodstream. The next step is to separate and collect the blood via apheresis (similar to donating blood). This safe and painless procedure allows the remaining cells to be immediately returned to you. The entire process usually lasts about 4 hours. You will be in a comfortable, relaxed, resting position where you can watch tv, listen to music on your headphones or use your laptop. After collection, approximately half of the stem cells are stored to be used should you be diagnosed with a stem cell treatable cancer or require an immune system transplant. The remaining half is stored for future regenerative medical uses. Your stem cells will be available for the rest of your life.
